The AFZ, as a military institution, has a unique rank structure, which is hierarchical to allow for effective command and control. It is unique in the sense that it is completely different from those of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA).
The AFZ is organized in such a way that there are two points of entry, namely, the Commissioned Officers’ and Non-Commissioned Officers Corps. The ranks are shown below in ascending order and ZNA equivalents are also given for better understanding:
