Kenyatta University Postgraduate 2023 Intake – Application Form

Applications are invited from qualified applicants for the following programmes which will be offered from various Digital School of Virtual and Open Learning Centers; Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Embu, Kisumu, and Garissa beginning January 2023. The entry requirements for each Programme are as shown below:

SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Department of Library and Information Science
Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS)
Campus: Main and City campuses

Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Library & Information Science or any other degree course in any branch of Knowledge
of Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution, and attained Second Class Honours (Upper
Division).
Bachelor’s degree in Library & Information Science or any other degree course in any branch of knowledge
of Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution and attained Second Class (Lower Division) with two (2) years of relevant work experience.

Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Library and Information Science
Master of Science Records Management and Archives Administration (MRA)
Campus: Main, City Campuses

Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Records Management & Information Technology or any other degree course in
any branch of Knowledge of Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution and attained Second
Class Honours (Upper Division). OR
Bachelor’s degree in Records Management & Information Technology or any other degree course in any
branch of Knowledge of Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution and attained Second Class
Honours (Lower Division) with Two years of relevant work experience.

Department of Library and Information Science
Master of Science (Knowledge Management). (M.SC. KM)
Campus: Main, City
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science, Records Management and Information Technology
or any other degree course in any branch of knowledge of Kenyatta University or any other recognized
University and attained Second Class Honours (Upper Division).OR,
Bachelor’s degree in Library and Information Science, Records Management and Information Technology or
any other degree course in any branch of knowledge of Kenyatta University or any other recognized
University and attained Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with Two years relevant work experience.
OR
Bachelor’s degree in any branch of Knowledge with a Second Class (Lower Division) from Kenyatta
University or any other recognized University with relevant Postgraduate Diploma qualifications.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Educational Communications & Technology
Post-graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE)
Campuses: Main, Nakuru, Embu and Mombasa Campuses.

Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Arts/Science degree with at least two teaching subjects of a mean grade of C+ (Plus) in KCSE
or its equivalent.
Course Duration: One and a Half (1 ½) years.
Department of Early Childhood and Special Needs Education
Master of Education in Early Childhood Education
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Education degree in Early Childhood Education or related field, with at least Second Class
Honours( Upper Division) or equivalent from Kenyatta University or any other recognized institution OR,
Bachelor of Education in Early Childhood Education, or related field with at least Second Class (Lower
Division) with minimum grade C+ (Plus) in units relevant to the area of specialization and two years work
experience in Early Childhood Education.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Department of Business Administration
Master of Business Administration (MBA) with areas of Specialization as Human Resource Management,
Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Finance, Strategic Management, Management Information Systems,
Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Accounting and Project Management.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent from Kenyatta
University or any other recognized university.
A holder of a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) Degree of Kenyatta University or any other recognized
University with proven ability in research, administration or management.
A holder of a degree of Kenyatta University or any other recognized University plus relevant full professional
qualification certificate.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

SCHOOL OF HOSPITALITY, TOURISM AND LEISURE STUDIES
Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management
Master of Science in Hospitality Management
Campus: All Campuses
Minimum Entry Requirements
A holder of Bachelor of Science (Upper Second Class Honours and above) degree in Hospitality and Tourism
Management and related fields.
A holder of Bachelor of Science (Lower Second) degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and related area with at least three (3) years of relevant working experience.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Master of Science in Tourism Management
Campus: All campuses

Minimum Entry Requirements
A holder of Bachelor of Science (Upper Second Class and above) degree in Tourism Management and / or
related field.
A holder of Bachelor of Science (Lower Second) in Tourism Management and related field with at least 2 years
relevant work experience.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Recreation Management and Leisure Studies
Postgraduate Diploma In Sports Administration
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants for the Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Administration course shall have attained a minimum
academic qualification of Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognized University.
Duration: One academic year of two semesters during which10 units of 35contacct hours each will be covered
and a research project is undertaken.
Course Duration: One (1) year.

SCHOOL OF AGRICULTURE AND ENTERPRISE DEVELOPMENT
Department of Agricultural Economics
Master of Science in Agribusiness Management a) Farm Business Development option b) Trade &
Development Option.
City Campus
Minimum Entry Requirements
Holders of First Class or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) degree or their equivalent in Agribusiness, ,
Agricultural sciences or any other equivalent qualification from Kenyatta University or any other institutions
recognized by the University senate.
Those with Second Class Honours (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have Grade
“B” and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Agricultural Science and Technology
Master of Science in Integrated Soil Fertility Management
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science with at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree in Agriculture, Agricultural
Resource Management, Dryland Agriculture & Enterprise Development, Agricultural Engineering, Range
Management, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Agricultural Education and Extension, Plant and Microbial
Sciences, Geography or any other equivalent qualification from other institutions recognized by Kenyatta
University Senate.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Master of Science in Dryland Agriculture
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science with at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree Agriculture, Agricultural
Resource Management, Dryland Agriculture, Animal Production and Health Management, Agricultural
Engineering, Range Management, Horticulture, Environmental Science, Agricultural Education, and Extension,
Agricultural Economics or any other equivalent qualification from other institutions recognized by Kenyatta
University Senate.

Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science with at least Second Class Honours (Lower Division) degree Agriculture, Agricultural

Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree with at least First Class or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Agriculture
or other related areas from all institutions recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have grade ‘C’ and above
in units relevant to their areas of specialization or a Postgraduate Diploma.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Agricultural Science and Technology
Master of Science in Agronomy
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree with at least First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in
Agriculture or any other related areas from all institutions recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have grade ‘C’ and above
in units relevant to their areas of specialization or a Postgraduate Diploma.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Agricultural Science and Technology
M.Sc. Crop Protection in a) Entomology Option b) Plant Pathology Option
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science degree with at least Second Class Honors (Lower Division) in Agriculture or other related
areas from Kenyatta University and other institutions recognized by Kenyatta University Senate.
Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have grade ‘C’ and above
in units relevant to their areas of specialization or a Postgraduate Diploma.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Agricultural Science and Technology
Master of Science in Seed Technology and Trade
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science Degree with at least First Class or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in Agriculture
or other related areas from Kenyatta University and other institutions recognized by Kenyatta University
Senate.
Holders of Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have grade ‘C’ and above
in units relevant to their areas of specialization or a Postgraduate Diploma.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Animal Science
Master of Science in Animal Nutrition And Management
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Science with at least Second Class (Lower Division) degree in Animal Production and Health
Management, Veterinary Medicine, Agriculture, Agricultural Resource Management, Dryland Agriculture,
Range Management or it’s equivalent from Kenyatta University or other institutions recognized by Kenyatta
University Senate.
Holders of B.Sc. degree with Second Class Lower Division in the agricultural related areas must have at least
two years of relevant research experience.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

SCHOOL OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Department of Geography
Master of Science in (a) Geomorphology (b) Biogeography (c) Climatology (d) Hydrology & Water Resources.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent in Engineering,
Hydrology, and related disciplines, Natural Sciences or Social and Human Sciences from a recognized
university. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have Grade
“C” and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Geography
Master of Arts in (a)Urban and Regional Planning (b) Agricultural Geography (c) Transport Geography (d )
Geography of Marketing (e) Population and Settlement Geography (f) Economic and Industrial Geography
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Arts, Science or Bachelor of Education Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper
Division) or equivalent from a recognized university and has studied Geography either as a major or regular
subject to a degree level. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they
have Grade “C” and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Department of Public Policy and Administration:
Masters of Arts in Public Policy and Administration (MPPA)
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree of at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from a recognized university in any area
of specialization. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) may be considered on condition that they have
Grade “C” and above in units relevant to their areas of specialization.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.
Department of Kiswahili
Master of Arts in Kiswahili

Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or equivalent from Kenyatta
University or any recognized university with an average grade of ‘B’ in Kiswahili. Those with Second Class
(Lower Division) and with relevant work experience may also be considered.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

SCHOOL OF SECURITY, DIPLOMACY AND PEACE STUDIES
Department of International Relations, Conflict and Strategic Studies
Master of Arts in International Relations and Diplomacy
Campus: Main, City, Mombasa Campus
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor of Arts (International Relations and Diplomacy OR Political Science) degree with at least Second
Class Honours (Upper or Lower Division) from any recognized University.
Those with Bachelor of Arts degree in related disciplines such as History, Political Philosophy/Theory,
International Law or Economics will also be considered.
Course Duration: Two (2) Years

Department of International Relations, Conflict and Strategic Studies
Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Management
Campus: Main, Mombasa, City
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper or Lower Division) from Kenyatta University or
any other recognized by the University senate. Those who are eligible to apply are fresh graduates in the
disciplines of conflict and peace, political, development and gender studies, history, sociology, law,
international relations, public policy and administration and personnel working with civil societies, government
and the public sector interested in pursuing the discipline of peace and conflict.
Course Duration: Two (2) Years

Department of Security and Correction Science
Masters in Security Management and Police Studies
Campus: City, Embu, Nakuru, Mombasa Campuses.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Bachelor’s degree with at least Second Class Honours (Upper or Lower Division) from Kenyatta University or
any other recognized University. Those with Second Class (Lower Division) and at least two (2) years of relevant work experience may be considered.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND APPLIED HUMAN SCIENCE
Department of Food, Nutrition and Dietetics
Postgraduate Diploma in Food, Nutrition and Dietetics
Campus: Main
Minimum Entry Requirements
A holder of Bachelor’s degree in Health, Agriculture, Biological Sciences, Food and Nutrition related Sciences
OR Bachelor of Education degree in Home Economics.
Course Duration: One (1) year.
Department of Physical Education, Exercise and Sports Science
Master of Science in Physical Education
DSVOL: Main Campus

Minimum Entry Requirements
Candidates should be holders of a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education (major or regular), Sport/Exercise
Science or Recreation Management from a recognized and accredited University. Candidates should have
attained a minimum of Second Class Honours (Lower Division). A post-graduate Diploma from Kenyatta
University or any other recognized University may be considered.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Master of Science in Exercise and Sports Science
DSVOL: Main Campus
Minimum Entry Requirements
The common regulations for all masters’ degrees in the University shall apply.
A holder of a First degree with minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) degree or its equivalent in a
relevant discipline shall be considered.
Gradates of Physical Education, Exercise and Sport Science or Recreation and Sports Management as well as
those in related fields such as Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition, and Special Education shall be considered,
Holders of a relevant Postgraduate Diploma in Sports Administration and Management of Kenyatta University
or any other recognized University shall be eligible for admissions to the programme while holders of a
Postgraduate Diploma in related disciplines may also be considered.
Course Duration: Two (2) years.

Application forms can be obtained from Kenyatta University, Admissions Block, Office No. 12 or at
the Regional Centers based in Nairobi, Embu, Mombasa, Kisumu and Garissa or be downloaded from
our website. Applicants shall pay non-refundable application processing fee of Kshs. 2,000/= for East
Africans and Kshs. 4,000/= for non-East Africans through Bank deposit into any of the following bank

NB: ‘O’ Level Certificate must be attached: Those with Grade C (Plain) at K.C.S.E must have a
Diploma and those with C – (Minus) must have a Certificate and a Diploma.
