Description;
Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) is a State Corporation established through the Science and Technology (Amendment) Act of 1979, which has since been amended to Science, Technology and Innovation Act 2013. The 1979 Act established KEMRI as a National body responsible for carrying out health research in Kenya.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform entomological sample collection, processing, preservation, storage, and shipment.
- Perform routine laboratory procedures including PCR and ELISA
- Perform bioassays on field collected and lab reared mosquitoes.
- Mosquito rearing and insectary maintenance.
- Follow and ensure proper compliance with protocol procedures and institutional guidelines.
- Maintenance of study documentation and records.
- Support the drafting of SOPs, operations manuals, quality assurance documentation, training materials and others.
- Attend all required trainings and ensure activities are carried out in accordance to stipulated guidance from Senior Research Scientist.
- Train, guide and supervise field workers in the field and laboratory.
- Assist in planning, organizing, and undertaking of field activities.
- Manage and monitor equipment, reagents, consumables, and other resources needed for research activities.
- Oversee data entry and data cleaning in timely manner.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in any area of biological sciences with preference to medical entomology.
- At least one-year previous field and insectary experience working on mosquitoes.
