About St. Patrick’s Midwifery Training School
Fifty years ago, the Missionary Sisters of St. Louis arrived in Offinso to continue the healing ministry of Christ. After establishing the hospital, the idea of starting a nursing school was conceived. To this effect1966 marked the birth of this unique and noble institution, St. Patrick’s Nursing and Midwifery Training College under the leadership of Sr. Emerentia. As time went on, it was left in the care and nurture of other parents/guardians just as some parents travel and leave their children in the care of other parents/guardians. Hence, the parents under whom the school has gone through growth and development are as follows: The Late Sr. Emerentia , Sr. Amoah, Sr. Kwarteng, Mr. Boaselenu , Sr. Mensah and Sr. Donkor .The school started with a Certificate Programme in Enrolled Nursing (EN) and later on, the Qualified Registered Midwife (QRM) was added but was phased out. Later on, Enrolled Midwifery was also introduced. Meanwhile, in 1983, the Enrolled Nursing was phased out and the institution continued to train only Enrolled Midwives until 2006.
