HIAS is the global Jewish nonprofit organization that protects refugees-including women and children, and ethnic, religious, and sexual minorities-whose lives are in danger for being who they are.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and group counseling interventions to clients experiencing various forms of trauma while observing the highest levels of confidentiality and professional ethics and etiquette
  • Conduct psychological assessments and Mental Status Examinations; prepare and submit the reports to the Supervisor. Ensure appropriate psychosocial assessment and diagnosis of all the counseling cases are in line with the World Health Organization (WHO) Mental Health Atlas
  • Assess the clients’ capability to undertake and engage in self or wage employment.
  • Follow up and monitor all referral cases and provide feedback of interventions offered, by referral programs and partners.
  • Assist in preparation of timely, quality, and comprehensive reports for work done

Required Qualifications:

  • A Degree in Counseling Psychology from a recognized university
  • Have at least 2 years of counseling experience. Experience working with refugees will be an added advantage
  • Experience in trauma counseling
  • Ideal candidate should have a keen awareness and a good knowledge of psychosocial issues and the complexities of working on these issues
  • Strong analytical and report writing skills and proven ability to conduct psychological assessments
  • Good team player with excellent cross-cultural interpersonal skills
  • Proactive and able to work under minimal supervision while exercising diplomacy, flexibility and assertiveness
  • Ability to confront and discuss sensitive issues with respect and able to uphold high standards of confidentiality
  • Knowledge of Computer Applications such as MS-Access, MS-Excel and MS Word

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, oversee and coordinate logistics operations to ensure smooth accomplishment of HIAS Kenya programs/projects.
  • Schedule and route vehicles and drivers to ensure that HIAS staff transport needs are facilitated to enable them to carry out their various assignments
  • Manage transport arrangements for international staff and visitors coming to HIAS Kenya when called upon
  • Participate and support in the development and design of logistics support policies and processes for effective operations
  • Provide technical and procedural advice in a broad range of logistics areas
  • Develop and maintain partnerships and network with external organizations
  • Ensure logistics requirements take age, gender and diversity needs into consideration
  • Ensure that safe driving practices are adhered to including local driving codes and internally agreed standards.
  • Facilitate timely servicing of all vehicles and ensure that all repairs carried out meet required standards to minimize accidents and breakdowns.
  • Facilitate renewal of road insurance for HIAS vehicles
  • Monitor HIAS vehicle movements and transport utilization as per required standards.
  • Prepare and submit vehicle monitoring reports, including records of vehicle operations, maintenance, expenses, mileage as required.
  • Prepare analysis reports to ensure that fuel drawn on all vehicles is put to good use.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business management with a major in Logistics.
  • 2 years of experience in Logistics and Transport coordination.
  • Experience in working with a humanitarian NGO will be an added advantage.
  • Computer literate and with excellent knowledge in computer packages.
  • Must possess a valid BCE driving license and have a valid PSV license.
  • Must have good knowledge of Nairobi and its environs.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective work relations at all levels.
  • Knowledge of Accountability to Affected Populations.

HIAS is a Jewish American nonprofit organization that provides humanitarian aid and assistance to refugees. It was originally established in 1881 to aid Jewish refugees. In 1975, the State Department asked HIAS to aid in resettling 3,600 Vietnam refugees.

  • Gender and GBV Program Manager
Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation of the HIAS GBV prevention and response program through the provision of strategic direction and technical advice on program design and development.
  • Oversee the piloting and exploration of prevention programming focusing on social norms change and new ways to engage men in ending violence against refugee women and girls.
  • Oversee the overall case management of the program and supervise caseworkers and community-based GBV prevention monitors to implement GBV case management effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with HIAS MHPSS (Mental Health and Psychosocial Support) team by providing insight on the medical and psychosocial needs of refugees who are survivors of GBV.
  • Provide mentoring and on-the-job training to GBV staff to become experts in GBV prevention, response and mainstreaming in line with the accredited standards.
  • Ensure that the monthly GBV working group meetings take place as planned with the participation of all agencies and coordination committees.
  • Produce accurate, detailed and timely reports of all project activities and progress using program monitoring and information from the GBVIMS.
Qualifications;
  • A minimum of master’s degree in Gender Studies, Community Development Studies, Social Science and/or other related fields of study
  • 7 – 9 years working in a management position with at least 3 years in Project Management, monitoring and evaluation with a specific focus on GBV prevention and response programming; preference for candidates that have previous experience with direct service provision to GBV survivors.
  • Strong training and capacity-building experience, particularly using participatory techniques for training related to different components of GBV programming.
  • Experience working with GBVIMS (Gender-Based Violence Information Management System).
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender and patriarchy and the role both play in violence against refugee women and girls, sexual and gender minorities, safety planning etc.
