Technical Advisor – Pediatrics & Adolescents Job at Elizabeth Glaser

• Coordination of the development of weekly, monthly and quarterly pediatric and adolescent work plans and review budgets and requisitions for technical soundness.
• Coordinate identification of training needs and support implementation of relevant training modules targeting medical staff and other HIV providers.
• Support the Senior Technical officers and technical officers in their routine weekly site supportive supervision along with sub county HMT members to ensure quality service delivery.
• Monitor implementation and progress of HTS coverage, ART initiation, OI management, viral load suppression, and retention and cohort outcomes for children and adolescents living with HIV.
• Take lead in pediatric and adolescent ART optimization in accordance to the national guidelines.
• Work closely with the Strategic Information to ensure all facilities are provided with their pediatric and adolescent HIV targets and dash boards, and through the technical officers ensure that these are updated on a monthly basis.
• Work closely with the Care and treatment as well as the Prevention, RAL and HTS TAs to ensure coverage, retention and cohort outcomes.
• Will be a member of project management team as well as take part in the donor review meetings on a quarterly basis and SIMS sites visits.
• Coordinate continuous availability of vital commodities including rapid test kits, drugs and that facilities have the required equipment, furniture and the various monitoring and evaluation tools required for a functional HIV program.
• Identify and mobilize NGOs/ FBOs / CBOs that will be the link to the community for pediatric and adolescent HIV activities.
• Participate in the various relevant pediatric and adolescent TWGs at the county, regional level and national levels.
• Optimize Identification and linkage of HIV-positive adolescents to HIV care and treatment services.
• Develop Terms of Reference (TOR) for Adolescent peer educators.
• Work with Retention Adherence and Linkage (RAL) team to ensure Adolescent peer educators are well supervised at facilities.
• Implement Adolescent and pediatric differentiated Care model at supported sites including PAMA care, weekend clinics/holiday clinics, Multi-month refills.
• Ensure Operation Triple Zero is implemented in all supported sites and prompt monthly reporting.
• Train healthcare workers (HCWs) on the adolescent package of care (APOC).
• Provide Continuous mentorship and supportive supervision of HCW to ensure provision of quality Adolescent care package.
• Institutionalize express systems in the health facilities by using adolescent peer educators to help newly identified HIV-infected adolescents navigate the health system.
• Increase uptake of viral load (VL) testing for all Pediatrics and adolescents on ART through treatment literacy and support for line listing of all the adolescents on ART.
• Liaison with Nyawest regional TWG to fast track interventions for those failing PI based and second line treatment for children and adolescents.
• Support sensitization workshops for teachers in selected schools in the supported counties to improve retention and adherence to antiretroviral therapy (ART) for school-going adolescents.
• Take lead in Quality improvement projects and Program optimization approaches towards mitigating gaps in the pediatric and adolescent HIV programming.

To Be Successful, You Will Have:

• Bachelor degree in a health-related field. A medical Doctor is desirable.
• At least 3 years HIV/AIDS work experience especially within the context of health systems strengthening or health systems development.
• Advanced HIV training is required for this post.
• Demonstrated experience in program design, strategic planning, and program management and implementation experience.
• Experience in clinical management of HIV care and treatment for infected adults and children in resource poor settings.
• Knowledge and experience in program management and capacity building.
• Knowledge and experience in writing proposals and reports.
• Extensive knowledge on PMTCT, TBHIV, HIV care and ART services and quality of care assessment
