RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To coordinate hinterland transport activities, forecast, plan and allocate truck requisitions in line with cargo requirements.
  • Control transport pricing, leverage market and volumes to optimize transport profitability.
  • Ensure proper compliance of suppliers and vendors in line with the company policy.
  • Monitor, respond and act on any escalations with immediate and long term Corrective action.
  • Vet and onboard new transporters in line with internal and external market demand projections.
  • Constantly assess market trends and forecast possible challenges, changes, constraints and propose measures to minimize impact on company and client operations.
  • Develop, implement and maintain an effective health & safety program and ensure compliance to satisfy the requirements of local legislation
  • Liaise with onsite contractors to ensure their compliance with Company safety regulations and adherence to safety standards, including basic safety induction training
  • Conduct surveys and audits as required to identify and minimize the risk to company and employees
  • Assist with formulation of emergency contingency plans, write safe systems of work and amend where appropriate due to process/system changes
  • Create, develop and maintain good relationships with service providers, while facilitating negotiations of best rates at country level
  • Develop a culture of quality, service excellence , flexibility and cost consciousness
  • Develop a team spirit and multitasking capabilities within the team
  • Identify training needs and opportunities to develop a highly skilled functional department
  • Ensure Department KPI’s are maintained, displayed and achieved

Reports to: Head of Industrial Projects, East Africa.

Job Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management or any related business field
  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience with good commercial mindset.
  • Extensive understanding of  health and safety legislation, transport sector and Forwarding Industry
  • Strong analytical and communication skills
  • Results driven and attention to details
  • Strong structuring skills
  • Knowledge of the industry and stakeholders- transporters and regulatory authorities.
  • Excellent management skills
