- Conservation Tourism Projects Manager
Responsibilities:
- Undertakes detailed conservation and social diligence on selected tourism operators in eastern and southern Africa.
- For new investments, prepares summary recommendations to the Conservation Committee on the conservation and social impact potential of a given investment based on the results of their diligence processes and the overall impact objectives of the Fund.
- Prepares detailed recommendations to the Conservation Committee for conservation and community activities to be undertaken by tourism operators in eastern and southern Africa, including specific language to be included as conservation criteria for investment on a case-by-case basis, in the form of a formal memorandum with annexed materials.
- Monitors on a bi-annual basis the conservation and community activities being undertaken by tourism operators receiving investment from the Fund and assessing performance against targeted Fund benchmarks and detailing that assessment in the form of a formal memorandum.
- Coordinate the work and meetings of the Fund’s Conservation Committee, including all aspects of project management.
- Work closely with TNC Africa staff in the countries covered by the Fund as necessary on diligence and recommendations to ensure consistency in messaging and outcomes across TNC’s work in the region.
- Work with Protect Indigenous Landscape Director to ensure conservation and social impacts are aligned with TNC 2030 goals/ outcomes.
- Experience making written and oral recommendations and presentations
- Provide guidance to tourism operators on strategies to achieve outcomes for conservation and communities.
- Makes strategic decisions based on analysis, experience and judgment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Conservation, Finance, Tourism Management or related and 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination in a private sector environment, such as tourism or conservation finance focused on the landscapes of Africa.
- Experience leading and managing complex projects and strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment in the nature-based tourism sector in Africa.
- International work experience.
- Project management experience and experience meeting deadlines.
- Experience developing end products with software such as PowerPoint, Word, Excel.
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.

- Gender Advisor
- Define priorities for gender and conservation for the region.
- Serve as the Africa technical expert/spokesperson for gender.
- Provide technical leadership on gender to various projects and staff.
- Ensure that all Africa conservation initiatives are aligned with TNC gender guidelines.
- Monitor and analyze developments on gender and conservation within Africa.
- Develop key partnerships with public and private organizations on gender training.
- Ensure gender is integrated into public and private fundraising proposals.
- In partnership with the fundraising team, develop donor-specific proposals to fund our gender work.
- Train Africa staff including the leadership team on gender awareness and unconscious bias.
- Develop a cohort of gender focal points across the region.
- Work with the communications team to regularly share progress, successes, learnings to raise the profile of gender.
Qualifications;
- BA/BS degree and 7 years experience in gender or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Evidence of good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.

- Africa Indigenous Landscape Program Officer
Responsibilities:
- The geographic scope includes five landscapes in the Protect Africa Indigenous Landscape program: Kafue Zambia, Northern Kenya, Northern Tanzania, Western Tanzania and Okavango Angola.
- Oversee project management and contract tracking system for the strategy.
- Make recommendations for strategic decisions when needed, based on analysis, experience, and judgment.
- Writing and reviewing documents review for a range of materials to support strategy implementation.
- Coordinate contract management.
- Use TNC’s Highly Effective Teams approach to effectively manage key projects to support the strategy.
- Act independently and in the supervisor’s stead, as needed; exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems.
- Coordinate the work of cross-functional, cross-geographic teams towards the desired outcome.
- Ensure programmatic commitments, Conservancy policies and procedures, financial standards, and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance; decisions may bind the organization financially or legally.
- Support management of project budgets and assist with budget development related to strategic projects. and ensure that public and private funds are raised to meet program needs.
Qualification;
- BA/BS degree and 5 years experience in conservation practice or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience in natural resource management, community and livelihoods development, resource economics and business development.
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workloads and finances under deadlines.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups, and/or government agencies.
- Experience negotiating.
- Experience handling confidential information with sensitivity.
- Multi-lingual and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
- 5-7 years experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
