University of Iringa Admission Requirements

The University of Iringa (UoI) has released the admission requirements for undergraduate and Postgraduate programmes. Prospective students should endeavor to check the entry requirements before applying for admission. Interested candidates can access the University of Iringa programmes before proceeding to apply.

Admission requirements vary slightly according to the program the applicant is seeking admission for and/or individual circumstances. The school or department in which the applicant wishes to register may prescribe certain additional course requirements if the student is deemed to be deficient.

Below are the admission requirements based on programmes:

Part 1

All applicants must have earned a Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) with a minimum of 3 credit passes, obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE).

Part 2

After meeting the requirement in Part 1 the applicant must also qualify in one of the following categories before proceeding to the “Specific Admissions Requirements” for the programme they wish to enter.

Category A: Direct Entry (Form VI graduates)

Applicants eligible for direct admission to a degree programme must have earned an Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE) with at least two principal passes and a total of 4.5 or more points.

Category B: Equivalent Qualifications (Diploma holders)

Applicants eligible for equivalent admission to a degree programme must have either:

  • Minimum equivalent requirements specific to the programme of study as listed under the Faculty; or
  • Met entry requirements at an accredited University in the applicant’s home country (for foreign applicants) subject to approval by the IUCo Academic Board and the Tumaini University Senate.

Category C: Entrance Examination Qualifications

Applicants who have at least two principal passes, but have less than 4.5 total points in the ACSEE must undertake pre entry remedial course of six weeks for non Science Degree courses and 8 weeks for Science Degree courses and pass an Examination thereafter.

Category D: Mature Age Entry

Applicants eligible for mature age admission to a degree programme must:

  • Be 25 years of age or older in the year of application;
  • Have completed Form IV (or equivalent) at least five years prior to the year of application;
  • Have attended extra-mural classes or residential courses and submit a letter of recommendation from the tutor, or Have attended a residential course at an Adult Education College and submit a letter of recommendation from the Principal;
  • Pass the Tumaini University, Iringa University College Entrance Examination.
