UCAES Admission Requirements

UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

The admission requirements into the undergraduate programmes of the University of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences Umuagwo shall be as follows:

1.  all admissions into the University shall be through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB);
2. for admission to 100 Level (via UTME), candidates must: obtain five (5) credits at SSCE (or equivalent) in relevant subjects at not more than 2 sittings including credit passes in English and Mathematics; and attain acceptable points in UTME in relevant subjects;
3.  for admission by direct entry (200 Level), candidates shall, in addition to having five (5) SSCE credits, obtain at least two (2) A’ level (or its equivalent) passes in relevant subjects, or possess ND with credit passes, or possess a good first degree in another field as the case may be;
4.  Credit passes in English Language and Mathematics shall be compulsory for admission into all courses; and
5.  The University shall not accept transfer students until after at least the first two years of its existence. Prospective students must, in addition to meeting the general admission requirements, also satisfy the school and departmental requirements detailed below:

 

1. School of Agriculture

UTME subjects are: Chemistry, Biology/ Agricultural Science and Mathematics/ Physics.
B. Fisheries and Aquaculture	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology/ Agric. Science, and Physics/ Geography/ Economics.	ND in relevant field or Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry and one of Botany/Zoology Biology/ Physics/ Agric. Science.	UTME subjects are: Chemistry, Biology/Agric. and Maths./Physics.
B.Sc. Food Science and Nutrition	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and any other science subject	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. ND at minimum of upper credit level may be considered for 200 level	UTME subjects are: Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics or Biology.

ND with at least Upper credit in relevant fields or Two ‘A’ level passes from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.	UTME subjects are: Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.
B. Eng. Electro-Mechanical Engineering: (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Chemical Petroleum Engineering).		Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including English Language, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry and any other Science subject.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Chemistry or Mathematics.	UTME subjects are: Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics.

 

3. School of Environmental Sciences

B. Sc. Environmental Sciences: (Estate Management & Evaluation, Environmental Management & Toxicology, Horticulture & Landscape Architecture).	Five credit passes in SSCE (or its equivalent) including Mathematics, English Language, Physics and any other two subjects selected from Geography, Economics, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Fine Arts and Building Construction.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two A level credit passes in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry and five credit passes at SSCE (or its equivalent). ND in related field with a minimum of upper credit level and good SSCE result may be considered.	UTME subjects are: English, Physics, Mathematics or Geography and any relevant subject.

 

4. School of Arts, Social and Management Sciences

B. A. Humanities: (Philosophy, English)	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including English Language and any other arts subject.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes to include Lit. in English and one other arts subject.	UTME subjects are: Lit. in English, one Arts subject and another Arts or Social science subject
B. Sc. Social Studies: (Peace   Diplomatic Studies, Criminology & Security Studies and Psychology).	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including English Language, Economics, mathematics, and any other two subjects.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes in any related social subjects.	UTME subjects are: History/ Government and any other two subjects from Arts and Social Sciences.
B. Sc. Business Administration: (Business Administration, Marketing Entrepreneurship, and Cooperative and Rural Development)	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Economics, one Science subject and any other one relevant subject.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two A level passes chosen from Economics, Accounting, Business Management and Geography.	UTME subjects are: English, Economics, Mathematics and any Social Science subject.
B. Sc. Accounting: (Accounting and Taxation)	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Economics, one Science subject and any other one relevant subject.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two A level passes chosen from Economics, Government and Literature in English.	UTME subjects are: English, Economics, Mathematics and any Social Science subject.

 

5. School of Science and Computing

Physics	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes in Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry.	UTME subjects are: Physics and Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology
Computer Science and Information Technology	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including English, Mathematics, Physics plus two other science subjects.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes in in one or more relevant subjects (Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics).	UTME subjects are: Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agric Science, Economics and Geography.
Biology, Biotechnology	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Chemistry and any one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology.	UTME subjects are: Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics.
Microbiology	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) including English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes chosen in Chemistry and any one from Biology, Zoology or Botany.	UTME subjects are: Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics.
Chemistry	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Physics,  hemistry and Biology.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes chosen from Chemistry and any one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology.	UTME subjects are: Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics.
Biochemistry	Five Credits at SSCE (or its equivalent) in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.	ND in relevant field with at least upper credit pass, or Two ‘A’ level passes in Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology.	UTME subjects are: Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics.
