KNEC postpones ECDE Exams 2023 and SNE Examinations.

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has postponed Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) and Diploma in Special Needs Education (SNE) examinations that were slated for April 2023.

In a circular dated 30th March 2023, sent to all principals of colleges offering 2023 ECDE and SNE examinations, Dr Mercy G. Karogo who is the council’s CEO said the move was informed by president Uhuru’s directive that had instructed all learning institutions to be shut down in order to contain the spread of COVID-19.

“Subsequently, the Kenya national examination council wishes to inform you that the 2023 ECDE (proficiency, certificate and diploma) that is scheduled to take place between 12th and 16th April 2023 and diploma in Special Needs Examination (SNE) scheduled to be done between 12th and 23rd April 2023 have been postponed until further notice”, said Dr. Karogo.

She further noted that new examination dates will be announced as soon as colleges reopen

“The Kenya national examination council shall review the directive from time to time and inform you of the new examination dates once colleges reopen”, added Dr. Karogo.

The move for the council to call off these exams comes at a time when covid-19 cases have hit a total of 50 since the first case was reported.

Speaking outside Afya House on Monday, March 30, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe noted that 1,000 people were tested on March 30.

1,474 people are being monitored, adding that 231 had been discharged after the end of their 14-day monitoring period.

“In the last 24  hours, we have tested 172 samples. A total of 84 samples from quarantined guests have been analysed. We have received confirmation of one person who has tested positive”, noted the CS.

“We have also tested 88 samples of close contacts of the 42 confirmed cases. Out of this number, six tested positive. An additional patient was from Agha Khan Hospital,” stated Kagwe.
