Bursary Application Closing Date: 31 October 2023 Calling all aspiring agricultural students of color! The South African Avocado Growers’ Association (SAAGA) is offering a unique opportunity for undergraduate and postgraduate students to pursue their dreams of a BSc Agriculture degree. This bursary is aimed at historically disadvantaged individuals, with the aim of increasing diversity in the South African avocado industry. About the Bursary:
- Bursaries are awarded for one academic year at a time, renewable annually based on academic performance.
- The bursary value is determined according to students’ needs and will be reviewed yearly.
- Successful applicants will be selected by a panel of judges, and they will be required to sign a contractual agreement.
- Shortlisted or successful candidates will be contacted by December 31, 2023. If you don’t receive feedback by this date, consider your application unsuccessful.
Bursary Obligations:
- Bursary recipients must focus their seminars and projects on avocados where possible.
- After graduation, students are required to work for the SA Subtropical Growers’ Association (Subtrop) for a duration equal to the bursary amount received.
- Failure in any course may require repayment of the bursary over a period equal to the bursary length. Repayments start in the year following the award.
Eligibility Requirements: Before applying, ensure you meet these minimum criteria:
- You must be a student of color.
- Completion of Matric.
- Studying toward an Undergraduate or Postgraduate Agriculture or equivalent degree.
- Study at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution.
- Agree to all terms on the application form.
