Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is a non-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya and New York, NY that combats urban poverty and gender inequity in the slums of Nairobi. Kennedy Odede, who grew up in the Kibera slum, founded SHOFCO in 2004 with a focus on youth and gender empowerment. SHOFCO has four initiative areas: education, health, economic and community empowerment, and water and sanitation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Execution: Lead the execution of diverse data and evidence activities, including routine monitoring, evidence reviews, analyses, and one-off evaluations. Manage MEL activities under a major Youth Engagement grant encompassing many program activities, as agreed with the funder.
  • Systems building: Work with diverse SHOFCO programs to streamline their data systems, define key indicators, and ensure seamless, timely, high-quality data.
  • Internal and external communication: Help build a data and evidence culture within SHOFCO. Communicate SHOFCO impact externally through various methods.
  • Strategy: Support continual refinement of and buy-in for SHOFCO’s MEL strategy.
  • Team management: Work with the Director of MEL to define, build and manage the ideal internal impact team for SHOFCO. Directly manage the MEL team assigned to the Youth Engagement grant. Support recruiting & hiring, performance management and professional development. Create and manage budgets.

Requirements

Education, Experience and Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience in high-quality professional roles, with at least 2 years in a leadership role involving MEL or data and evidence broadly.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree or Bachelor plus an advanced certificate or experience in a related field preferred.
  • Proven success in designing, implementing, and operating MEL or data systems.
  • Only Kenyan citizens or those authorized to work in Kenya will be considered.
