Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the Chief of Party in leading the implementation team and ensuring effective execution of the day-to-day activities of the USAID/Kenya and East Africa/ Sustainable, Transformational and Accessible Water Interventions (STAWI) Activity.
  • Provide technical oversight ensuring high quality, high impact and cost-effective implementation.
  • Manage key aspects of the development, implementation and consolidation of the STAWI Activity. Serve as a point of contact on area of responsibility to USAID as well as public, private and non-government stakeholders, when needed.
  • Ensure an integrated project vision while meeting all required contractual targets and anticipated results.
  • Manage key functions of the project to meet USAID’s expectations in terms of timely and quality results and budget.
  • Contribute to ensuring coordination between program and operations leads.
  • Effectively manage talent and supervise. Manage team dynamics and staff well-being. Provide coaching and mentoring.
  • Risk management on project delivery and ensuring an issue log is created.
  • Promote, uphold and model a commitment to the efficient use of agency and donor resources. Help ensure compliance with USAID grants, including financial tracking and oversight of partner budgets, finance, administration and reporting to USAID.
  • The Deputy Chief of Party will be expected to align to and assure adherence to KPMG’s internal policies, guidelines and ethics as well as USAID’s code of conduct and requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in civil, water, agriculture, geological, or environmental engineering; or public health.
  • 10 years of experience with successful water, governance, and/or agriculture projects.
  • 10 years of experience on projects with similar magnitude and complexity in developing countries.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one of the key areas; Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), Gender Empowerment, Digital technology, Private Sector Capacity Building, Policy, WASH and Climate (as mentioned in Section C) and complementing the experience of the COP.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional level of oral and written fluency in English.
