RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Input on Standard Operating Procedures for carbon stock changes and GHG emissions data collection, including review and revision of specific sections as needed
- Preparation of technical training presentation materials in collaboration with Winrock staff
- Meeting with Winrock and TREES staff on regular basis (weekly) to discuss project implementation status and updates
- Conduct (6) capacity building technical training sessions for TREES staff, including travel to field and local offices
- Implementation of field measurement plan based on SOP in collaboration with TREES staff in Kenya
- Review and initial QAQC for field level data for GHG emissions calculations and carbon stock changes in Project Area.
DELIVERABLES
- Written comments and input on SOP and Field Measurement Plan
- Capacity building technical training presentations and materials
- Report on completed technical training for TREES staff
- Field level data for carbon stock changes and GHG emissions estimations (with initial QAQC)
DURATION OF ASSIGNMENT
- The consultancy is expected to be implemented between October 6th, 2022 and March 2023, including 25-50 workdays over the course of these 6 months, with an estimated starting date in mid-October 2022.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree or equivalent education & experience in environmental science, sustainability, climate change, agriculture & land management, forestry, or related field;
- Familiarity with VCS Carbon Projects and VM0017 in particular
- Experience conducting field research and data collection
- Experience conducting/leading training sessions
- Must be located in Kenya and able to travel to Migori, Homa Bay, and Kisumu counties as necessary
