RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Providing legal advice and guidance to clients on a wide range of employment law matters, including hiring and engaging of employees, employer compliance requirements, termination of employees and the relevant procedures concerning the different types of termination, advising on immigration matters, internal investigation processes and disciplinary proceedings, union related matters, employee compensation and benefits including employee benefit schemes and ESOP structures.
  • Drafting and reviewing employment law related documentation including employment contracts, relevant notices, handbooks, and manuals.
  • Creating and conducting labor and employment-related trainings on a range of employment law related topics.
  • Working in collaboration with the Firm’s Forensics team with respect to investigations, advising and providing support on the employment aspects of investigations and the employee matters arising.
  • Responding to claims, demand letters, administrative complaints, audits, and other employment-related inquiries.
  • Monitoring developments of labour related laws to ensure and advise on continued compliance.
  • Conducting and assisting with employment-related due diligence, queries for transactions.
  • Liaising and interacting with legal counsel in other jurisdictions where the matter is multi-jurisdictional.
  • Interacting regularly with current and prospective clients in order to build a good network and relationships.

Experience and personal qualities

This role will require a high calibre and experienced professional with the highest levels of ambition and commitment.

The following qualifications, experience and personal qualities are preferred:

  • Law Degree and an advocate of the High Court of Kenya or equivalent qualifications.
  • At least three to five (3-5) years relevant experience in Employment Law related work.
  • Demonstrated experience in advising on and working on both small- and large-scale employment matters with multiple stakeholders and client handling skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in drafting employment related documentation and advising clients on the same.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Experience managing a team will be an added advantage.
  • Proficient in the use of IT Systems including Microsoft Office packages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
