KDF Recruitment Dates and Centres

The Kenya Defence Forces, KDF wishes to inform the general public and also invite qualified applicants to apply for the ongoing recruitment exercise for the year 2022.

The positions available are General Service Officer(GSO) Cadet, Specialist Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/women and Constables.

Candidates willing to join Kenya Defence Forces must have necessary qualifications(academic) and also meet the conditions stipulated.

General Conditions
1. Be a Kenyan citizen with no dual citizenship.
2. Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity Card. (4 Copies of National Identity Card and PIN certificate)
3. Age – between 18 and 26 years old for GSO Cadets, General Duty Recruits and Tradesmen/women with Certificate/Government Trade Test, not above 30 years for Specialist Officers, Tradesmen/women with Diploma, and not above 39 years for Chaplains/Imams.
4. Be physically and medically fit in accordance with the KDF standards.
5. Have no criminal record.
6. Minimum Height: (a) Men 1.60m (5ft 3in) (b) Women 1.52m (5ft)
7. Minimum Weight: (a) Men 54.55 Kg (120 lb). (b) Women 50.00 Kg (110 lb) .
8. Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.

Minimum Academic Qualifications

1. General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets: Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one Science subject. The training period for this category will cover three (3) years leading to a BSc in Military Science and Security Studies upon completion.

2. Specialist Officers: Must hold a minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with at least C+ (Plus) in English, Mathematics and one science subject. Must be a holder of an undergraduate degree from a recognized University/institution and be registered with a statutory body where applicable. The training period for Specialist Officers will not be less than three months.

3. Servicemen/women (General Duty) Recruits: Must hold a minimum mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE.

4. Tradesmen/women: Prospective candidates willing to apply must satisfy the conditions and requirements given below.
Technicians. A minimum mean grade of C (Plain) in KCSE, a relevant Diploma or above from a recognized Institution and be registered with the relevant statutory bodies, where applicable.
Artisans. A minimum mean grade of D+ (Plus) in KCSE and either a relevant certificate with Government Trade Test Grade II or Craft II from a recognized Institution.

5. Constables: Must be a retired Kenya Defence Forces Service Member or a retired National Youth Serviceman/woman.
Be between the ages of 30 and 55 years old for retired KDF and between 35 and 45 years old for retired NYS.
Possess a Discharge Certificate with a minimum rating of β€œVery Good” in conduct.
Must have served for at least 9 years Colour Service for retired honourably from KDF.

1. Service Assurance Manager

Job Purpose:Β 

Reporting to the Head of IT Service Delivery, The role holder will be expected to act as a subject matter expert for Software assurance focusing on post-production testing including pilot testing, Beta Testing, Disaster recovery (DR) testing, conduct business process testing and compliance test/validations. The role holder will ensure business/System services Deployed to the production environment are working as expected by carrying out periodic validations and monitoring. Ensures business users are trained, product manuals or Job cards provided. Lead Post-production testing including pilot testing, Disaster recovery (DR) testing, conduct business process testing and compliance test/validations. Liaise with quality analyst on quality metrics to assess performance of quality on test delivery.

The Service assurance Manager will lead day to day management of the service assurance strategy, developing or maintenance of service validation artifacts and activation of all test Service assurance processes.

Job Responsibilities/ Accountabilities:

  • Develop service assurance Strategy in guidance of the organization’s objectives
  • PNPs- Ensure compliance with set processes and standards; Review and suggest/recommend areas of improvements geared towards efficiency.

3. Field Supervisor

Job Summary: The Regional Field Supervisor (Feasibility Component of MVPE) position requires the incumbent to supervise multiple teams of community interviewers during a large cross-sectional household survey taking place in 46 sub-counties in 8 counties (Bungoma, Busia, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, and Vihiga) in western Kenya. Each Regional Field Supervisor will be responsible for the following duties in approximately one third of the area, including: coordination, field staff supervision, quality control, data management, logistics and operations management, community coordination and sensitization, and reporting in an accurate and timely fashion.

The supervisor receives her/his assignments from, and reports to, the Field Coordinator, Study Coordinator, and the Study PIs. The specific responsibilities of the supervisor are to:
  • Make the necessary preparations for the fieldwork;
  • Organize and direct the fieldwork; and
  • Monitor interviewer performance with the aim of improving and maintaining the quality of the data collected.
  • To prepare for fieldwork, the supervisor must do the following:
  • Obtain sample household lists and maps for each area in which his/her team will be working.
  • Become familiar with the area where the team will be working and determine the best arrangements for travel and accommodations.
  • Contact local authorities to inform them about the survey and gain their support and cooperation.

Project description: The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI), Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will be conducting a large community-based study of Attractive Targeted Sugar Bait (ATSB) aimed at reducing malaria transmission in western Kenya. The 3-year project is part of a larger international ATSB consortium involving three countries in Africa, and international partners in the UK and USA The project has an exciting opportunity for an administrative assistant as follows:

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with finance on activities related to budgets for new funding, project/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, developing and planning budgets for each project strategic area and assists in forecasting future resource needs.
  • Track expenditure and prepare timely reports for submission to Project Manager, PIs, Partners and Donors
  • Review financial and administrative vouchers and monitor MPESA payments.
  • Recommend approvals of project operating invoices and vouchers for payment.
  • Liaise with finance to ensure funds are available before processing LPOs and with relevant departments to ensure Request for Purchases is completed for timely procurement and delivery of project supplies.
  • Maintain an inventory register and conduct unannounced inventories inspection to ensure all assets are available and maintained per schedule.
  • Manage office transport, track vehicle and motorbike expenses and highlight concerns
  • Liaise with Human Resource on hiring and orientation of project staff.
  • Manage timesheet tracker per project and maintain leave schedules.
  • Coordinate archiving of office records.
  • Coordinate project meetings and take minutes.
  • Facilitate processing of project staff travel requisitions.
  • Coordinate clearance of visitors to the branch and liaise with relevant departments for clearance, work permits, hotel reservations, ground transportation and office space.
  • Prepare welcome packets for visiting scientists.
  • Generate reports on project expenditure
  • Any other related duties as may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor

Terms of Employment: Contract for 1 year, renewable as per KEMRI scheme of service with a probation period in the first 3 months.

About the role

You will be our Content Creator, joining Viamo’s growing Marketing and Communications team. Your role is to ensure that we have high visibility as a thought leader within the M4D (Mobile for Development) movement, by showcasing our projects, products, impact, and achievements through multiple written mediums to our current and potential clients, with the goal of increasing new business development. You will play a pivotal role in crafting and writing communications for our international stakeholders and contributing to events that help Viamo facilitate a conversation around mobile strategies for development organization. In this role, you will manage the design and implementation of digital marketing strategies, including web, SEO/SEM, email, and social media. You will have the ability to share stories of impact in engaging and creative ways, emphasizing both the personal impact of a single beneficiary as well as the story behind impact numbers at scale. Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to and execute content strategy aligned with short-term and long-term marketing objectives, playing a key role in establishing Viamo as a thought leader.
  • Help define how Viamo talks about our products, solutions, and impact.
  • Lead the writing ofΒ and publish engaging content for both country-specific and global partners audiences, including:
  • Source, write, and produce monthly newsletters and frequent blogs.
  • Write content for product one-pagers, sector use cases, and case studies.
  • Write and publish content for social media and manage channels (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter).
  • Create external content and contribute to abstracts for online and in-person events such as webinars and conferences.
  • Maintain and edit content for the Viamo website as needed, including SEO/SEM.

Profile

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Media or related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3-5 years of B2B marketing and/or communications experience in any combination of: social enterprise, INGO, mobile network operator, ICT4D.
  • Experience working with US/European organizations and large donors, such as USAID and GIZ.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to communicate clearly with a range of people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • A strategic and creative thinker with proven experience of working on diverse and wide ranging communication strategies, including all forms of media.
  • Excellent understanding of how to use traditional and digital marketing tools and techniques to increase the visibility, profile, and reputation of an organisation.
  • Demonstrated self-management/entrepreneurial skills, adaptability, and resourcefulness.​

The Kenya Airports Authority is an autonomous body established in 1991 through an Act of Parliament and is charged with an umbrella responsibility of providing and managing a coordinated system of airports in the country. Prior to its formation, the former erstwhile Aerodromes Department under the Ministry of Transport and Communication handled this responsibility. Erstwhile was in charge of then Nairobi’s Old Embakasi Airport which was constructed in the mid-1950 to serve the first generation Boeing 707/DC8 aircraft; Nairobi Embakasi Airport was opened in May 1958, by the last colonial Governor of Kenya, Sir Evelyn Baring, although the airport was due to be opened by Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother was delayed in Australia and could not make the ceremony. Nairobi Embakasi Airport was then closed on March 14, 1978 and paved way to the current Jomo Kenyattta International Airport. Contrary to beliefs, Nairobi Airport was not the 1st airport in Kenya. Wilson Airport, which is one of the regions busiest domestic aerodrome traces its roots back to to the 1st World War.

Job Summary

  1. Bachelor of Law Degree from a recognized institution; A Master’s Degree will be an added advantage;
  2. Postgraduate Diploma in Law from Kenya School of Law;
  3. Minimum of twelve (12) years relevant working experience with at least 4 years in senior management/ leadership position;

Responsibilities

  2. Providing administrative support and guidance to the Board on the management of the Corporation including compliance with legal and statutory requirements.
  3. Ensuring that the minutes of the Board and Board Committees are promptly prepared and circulated.
  4. Assisting the Chairperson of the Board in organizing activities, including providing information, preparing agenda, issuing notices and preparing for meetings and board development programs.
  5. Providing secretarial services to the Board including ensuring that the Board work plan is prepared and adhered to, circulating Board papers in advance of the meeting, keeping a record of attendance at meetings, keeping safe custody of the seal and a record of its usage, custodian of Board documents such as, Board minute books, Board policy documents, Register of attendance and preparing the Board for Annual General Meetings where applicable.

  9. Ensuring ownership rights of all KAA assets and registration of title to all KAA properties, together with safe custody thereof.
  10. Carrying out legal audit on operations of the Authority including due diligence in order to recommend improvement, feedback and compliance.

    • Board induction and training;
    • Updating the Board and Committee charters;

    • Governance audit; and
    • Implementation of the code of conduct and ethics.
