Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the implementation of the Voice program in the country in liaison with the Regional Roving Grants Officer. In close coordination with Regional  Director and Country Management Team represent the Voice program in the country vis à vis country stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the communities of stakeholders in the country and also create synergy with the  the linking and learning focal point person in the country / regional teams.
  • Coordinate and lead on pro-active and innovative outreach to the target groups for the Voice program and coordinate the dissemination of information about the calls for proposals.
  • Launch and assess open country proposal calls and assess proposals with support from Voice global coordination team and others, guaranteeing application of Voice grant making criteria, principles and processes.
  • Regular communication with the Voice Coordination Team in particular the Program Manager and the Global Voice Grants Coordinator.

Grant Management and Partner Support

  • Lead organization of Voice program events and activities in Kenya.
  • Provide technical support as needed to potential grantees in the formulation of grant applications.
  • Mentor and provide technical assistance to grantees in the implementation of projects on and as needed.
  • Support capacity development and empowerment approaches.
  • Coordinate and support in-country grants team in carrying out program and accountability assessments.
  • Ensure effective post contract grant management including collection and assessment of reports, follow up,  communication with and monitoring grantees on the ground; ensure scheduled payments to grantees, and liaise with finance officer to ensure seamless grantee management and communication.
  • Manage, review and make recommendations to change as needed to ensure that grant processes are in line with Voice needs and promote effective grant making.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Process and monitor information on grant allocation in the administrative system.
  • Responsible for country level reporting on the Voice program (grant portfolio reporting, data collection and learning, time writing).
  • Develop and prepare operational reports for grant management at national and global level.
  • Administer Voice policies and procedures in accordance with country and organizational guidelines.
  • Track Voice grant compliance and bring instances of non-compliance to the attention of the Country Director and Voice Coordination Team.
  • Support grants and financial data reconciliation and preparation for reports, audits and other Voice reporting as needed.
  • Monitor regulations and their effect on grant making.

Your profile

  • 5 years experience with large scale grant management.
  • Excellent knowledge of LGBT and feminist/ women’s empowerment actors and issues in Kenya.
  • Knowledge of and affinity with social inclusion, marginalization, lobby & advocacy.
  • Knowledge of applicable country/ national regulations.
  • Relevant Academic background (MA level) or similar .
  • Excellent written and verbal English.
  • Administrative project management skills
  • Excellent ICT skills (Microsoft Office and database).

Responsibilities:

  • Become the “go to” WRI expert on Africa’s power system, creating high quality analytical outputs, articulating an WRI Africa perspective on the most complex elements of the energy transition, and inform discussions with industry & policy makers
  • Conduct long-term, in-depth quantitative and qualitative analysis (including power sector simulation, cost benefit analysis, and financial modeling), overcoming data gathering & analytical roadblocks and quality assuring outputs produced by others
  • Competently build, direct and refine complex models of the power sector and energy economics, identifying analytical gaps, limitations and opportunities
  • Synthesize analytical insights to bring clarity & structure on complex and disparate energy transition topics
  • Formulate analytically robust, high-ambition, compelling narratives based on analytical work, refining for multiple audiences (e.g. senior executives, technical experts, policy makers)
  • Refine analyses and subsequent narratives in close collaboration with partner organizations, industry players & external experts
  • Produce knowledge products (e.g. articles, reports, briefs, data products) that adhere to WRI’s quality guidelines
  • Produce workshop materials, policy briefs, technical papers, long-form reports, and other relevant materials with the support of the ETC’s Analytical Team

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement (20%)

  • Work with the WRI communications team and partners to develop communication assets suitable for a broader audience, leveraging the team’s analysis and insights
  • Work closely with the communications team to develop a communications strategy for the release and sharing of insights/briefs, co-authored op-eds, and other key thought leadership content
  • Work with the energy transitions engagement lead to orchestrate stakeholder interactions, including bilateral meetings, workshops, and wider industry event participation
  • Work with the energy transitions engagement lead to prepare and drive discussions with stakeholders to build a high-ambition consensus on steps to be taken to deliver a mid-century net-zero economy
  • Engage in public speaking on technical elements of the program’s work

Job Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in energy systems, energy economics, or related field, demonstrating significant mastery of analytical methods
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant research and analytics experience in a high-calibre environment specifically in the energy field, and with a focus on African country contexts
  • Strong subject matter expertise in energy systems and international energy markets, with a track record of working with energy sector stakeholders in Africa
  • Experience in conducting and publishing research on energy systems in Africa, with demonstrable execution of modeling techniques
  • Demonstrated expertise in structing and prioritizing a complex, multiple-faceted research work program
  • Demonstrable expertise in engaging with government, academia and CSOs involved in energy research in Africa
  • Superb interpersonal and networking skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with others as well as independently and with the highest standards of integrity
  • Proactive and self-starter, appetite for working autonomously in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills – confident leading high-quality quantitative and qualitative analytics on a range of different topics

Responsibilities:

Requirements for Appointment:

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: –

  • At least One (1) years driving experience;
  • At least a mean grade D+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
  • Valid driving license free from any current endorsements(s) for classes of the vehicles the driver is required to drive;
  • The Occupational Trade Test III Certificate;
  • First Aid Certificate course lasting not less than one (1) week from St. Johns Ambulance or any other recognized institution;
  • Proficiency in computer applications; and
  • Meets the requirements of chapter six (6) of the Constitution
